Black North Carolina Couple Murdered in Their Driveway

March 27, 2012 in Banner, North Carolina, U.S. Domestic Terrorism

A North Carolina couple were gunned down in their driveway on March 24, 2012, while their children looked on.  Tommy Brown and his girlfriend, Thalia Mook, both 35 years old, were murdered by their neighbor, John Hill Jr. outside their residence at 110 T.C Jones Road in Hoke County, North Carolina.

According to the Fayetteville Observer, Tommy Brown asked his neighbor, John Hill Jr., to stop shooting his firearm because children were outside playing.  While Brown was playing basketball with two of the children, “Hill  entered the yard carrying a .30-30 rifle and shot Brown in the back,” stated Sheriff Hubert Peterkin.

The children ran inside for cover and to get their mother, Thalia Mook.  When she came outside, Hill fatally shot Ms. Mook twice.  Hill went back to his home in the 5600 block of Philippi Church Road and refused to come out for authorities.  He finally surrendered after a 30-minute standoff and was taken into custody.  Officers seized 10 firearms from a search of Hill’s home Sunday morning.

John Hill Jr. is being held without bond in the Hoke County Detention Center (near Rock Fish, NC).  He has been charged with First Degree Murder in the killing of Mr. Tommy Brown, with charges still pending for the murder of Thalia Mook.

Neighbors Jimmy Bunnels and Lois Clairmont describe Brown and Mook as “good people, the best neighbors…they were quiet and they loved their kids.”  Both neighbors, also witnesses, “described Hill as someone to avoid.”

Tommy Brown and Thalia Mook are the latest casualties of U.S. Domestic Terrorism.  According to Sheriff Peterkin, they are still investigating and searching for a possible motive.  Jamie Scott, the brother of neighbor Jimmy Scott, summed up the senseless double homicide, saying, “It’s insane.”
